Natural Beauty and Adventure Awaits: Exploring Costa Rica’s Volcano Region and Beaches

Costa Rica is a unique destination that offers both natural beauty and adventure. The volcano region, located near La Fortuna, is home to the Arenal Volcano, which offers breathtaking views and so many adventure activities to choose from. We actually refer to this region as the “adventure capital of Costa Rica”.

A sunny day in Arenal, Costa Rica

Meanwhile, Costa Rica also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, where visitors can relax and soak up the sun or spend their time in the water trying their hand at surfing.

Our go-to 7 day Costa Rica adventure that incorporates the volcano + beach looks something like this:

Day 1:

Arrive to San Jose and head straight to the volcano region of Arenal. San Jose isn’t worth spending much time in, especially if you only have 7 days here – all of the beauty is outside of the big city!

Day 2:

Ziplining in the rainforest with incredible views of Arenal.

Day 3:

Start the day with a sloth hike and enjoy the afternoon in the hot springs. The hot springs in this region are heated by geothermal energy that originates from the country’s volcanic activity. The hot water contains high levels of minerals and has been known to have therapeutic benefits, such as soothing sore muscles, improving circulation, and reducing stress. Highly recommend some time here!

Day 4:

Beach time! There are so many incredible beaches to choose from, but Manuel Antonio on the southern Pacific coast is the best of all Costa Rican worlds – rainforest, beach, wildlife, and incredible views.

Day 5:

Manuel Antonio national park tour day – have the chance to encounter sloths, monkeys, toucans, and so much more, and finish the day relaxing on one of its stunning beaches.

Day 6:

Waterfall tour – spend the day chasing the many waterfalls in the region

Day 7:

Beach day

Day 8:

Back to San Jose to head home

The combination of these two regions provides a perfect balance of adventure and relaxation, making it an ideal destination for travelers who want to experience the best of both worlds. Costa Rica is truly a must-visit destination for anyone looking for a memorable and enriching vacation.
